I just found when I was diagnosed with an addiction, actually several
simultaneously, and was sent to a psychologist one of their
recommendations was to go to a twelve step meeting. And you know I
tried it. I went two or three times. I just didn't feel that it clicked
with me. I didn't understand it. Being trained as an architect in undergraduate school, things made
sense. They were logical, one thing, you know, was built upon another.
The twelve step program did not fit that mindset; that prototype. And
so I started on a journey to find out if there were ways to
recover other than the twelve step program.

As the recession dragged on in 2009, more people preferred to have a cocktail at home rather than out on the town. The
Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. said Tuesday that national sales
volume increased by 1.4 percent in 2009, to 187 million 9-liter cases,
and revenue was flat at $18.7 billion. That shows hard alcohol
is relatively immune to the recession, but trends did emerge that go
hand in hand with consumer spending cuts.

Say the word Internet and most people think about Facebook, gaming, paying bills and instant messaging far-flung friends. But
for a very small percentage of the population the Internet is as
addictive as gambling or alcohol, according to a study conducted by a
researcher at the University of Leeds. And perhaps more
interestingly, those who spend a lot of time surfing the Internet are
in fact more likely to be depressed, according to the same study,
recently published in the international journal Psychopathology.

in betting after taking the drug for his drinking problems. The patient has not gambled for at least a year since he started taking the drug to wean him off alcohol.

We have heard sayings like "don't get your expectations too high, or
curb your expectations." Try as you might, you can't help but to dream,
plot or plan out calculated moves in order for your expectations to
come to fruition. You have a tough enough time trying to control your
expectations in regards to your own personal life, but pinning those
invisible and emotional expectations on the alcoholic/addict and their
recovery is more often than not doomed for failure.

When Tiger Woods reportedly entered a sex-addiction treatment clinic in
Mississippi, he may have heartened others to seek help as well,
therapists say. On the other hand, the public attention and
bawdy jokes directed at the world's greatest golfer may have heightened
feelings of guilt that sex addicts already face. Those who treat sex addiction compare it to drug, drinking or gambling habits. "It
takes over your personal life, just like alcohol," said Amy Christian, a licensed practical counselor who has worked with sex-addiction patients. "It's not someone who
just likes sex; it's much deeper than that."
